As we approach the commencement of the 2026–27 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) risk season, the formal seasonal measures have not yet been released. However, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) has advised that no changes are currently anticipated to the core elements of the existing seasonal measures.
The 2026–27 BMSB risk season is expected to apply to relevant goods shipped on board a vessel between: 1 September 2026 and 30 April 2027 (inclusive)
Key Points:
- Target risk countries and target high-risk goods: No changes are currently anticipated to the existing list of target risk countries and target high-risk goods.
- Mandatory offshore treatment: Target high-risk goods shipped as break bulk cargo, including flat rack and open top containers, will continue to require mandatory offshore treatment before arrival in Australia.
- Random inspections: Goods from emerging risk countries, together with airfreight consignments from the United States and China, will continue to be subject to random inspections throughout the BMSB season.
- Treatment requirements: Where treatment is required, importers should ensure that treatment is completed by an approved provider and in accordance with DAFF requirements.
The final 2026–27 BMSB seasonal measures are expected to be formally published in late July or early August. We will continue to monitor the release of the final measures and provide further updates as additional information becomes available.
