Supply Chain Disruptions – Typhoon Champi | October 2026

Posted on October 23rd, 2026 in Popular Posts

Shipping Lines are facing another round of delays with major ports Shanghai and Ningbo facing closures as Typhoon Champi makes landfall this weekend.

Shanghai and Ningbo are currently running four days behind as previous typhoons and a challenging 2026 market continue to impact schedule reliability, infrastructure, services and supply/demand, particularly in peak season.

Ningbo: closed from the evening of Friday 23rd October until midday Sunday 25th October

Shanghai: closed from the evening of Saturday 24th October until midday Sunday 25th October

Global Supply Disruptions

  • Displaced volumes creating backlogs and suspension of booking acceptance.
  • Vessel bunching and delays of up to 14 days on heavily impacted sailings.
  • Schedules disruptions/omissions/blanks sailings for schedule recovery.
  • Increased berthing congestion and lull times including major Asia transhipment hubs.
  • Equipment imbalance/shortages and increased demand in some locations.
  • Trucking congestion and turnaround times.
  • Adjusted and delayed gate in/gate out processing.
  • Airports in the region remain open but flight cancellations are mounting.

Short-Term Outlook

Backlog and delays are anticipated with vessel bunching and schedule disruptions across the board. Further factors such as peak season, pre-Christmas cargo volumes and an unstable market throughout 2026 will also contribute to schedule and service unreliability.
