Importation Of Asbestos Or Asbestos Containing Material

As you should be aware, there has been an Australia-wide ban on the manufacture and use of all types of asbestos and asbestos containing material (ACM) since 31 December 2003.
Please be advised that the Department of Immigration and Border Protection has now stepped up its monitoring and enforcing powers to ensure that no asbestos and asbestos containing material (ACM) is imported into, and exported from Australia unless permitted by the relevant Minister. Border offences will apply and attract severe fines.
We urge you to refer to the below important DIBP website link for the latest information on Asbestos, some of the high risk goods that will be targeted by the DIBP, and the steps that must be taken by all parties to ensure strict compliance.
